Can't win for losing....

So I finally got my clutch installed, (thanks lowbudgetdiesel!:tu::rocking:) and took it out last night for a test drive. Well......

The clutch worked like a dream, it was smooth, the upgraded hydros made it easier to push the clutch in than it's ever been, and I'm thrilled with how the clutch works.

BUT....

The truck was running like shit last night, I just thought that maybe it was because it'd been sitting for a while (Not really a good excuse, but hoping).

I tried to use my code reader to pull the codes, since the CEL came on, and no codes showed up...uh oh. I ran the key trick, and got three codes...the companion code in the PCM, which is why they didn't show up on the scanner, and two lovely codes in the ECU...anyone wanna take a guess at what they were?

P0253 yay f'ing me! so, now time for a new VP.:argh:

So, now, I know there were a few specialized tools that are needed to change out a vp, anyone know what they are, and where I could get them at?

Im just about to change out my VP44 and as far as i know you need any special tools other than your filter wrench and a gear or steering wheel puller.

I do believe this series is one of the best step by step instructions for VP44 remaoval and installation:

no kidding, that is the best I've ever seen for changing out a vp...thanks for the link!

Well, VP is out, found out on the deinstall that (surprise surprise) it's not the factory vp, so I'm guessing what happened is that the PO replaced the lift pump and vp, but used another factory lift pump, so that probably killed the vp before I ever started upgrading the truck.
