Okay i have known that my alt was going out for a while. So today i was driving into work for some double time and the gauges went crazy! Showed an over voltage and the speedo was jumping around like a chicken with it head cut off. I have a voltage gauge build in my brake controler so i check that, i had 11.9vdc. Killed the truck running 65mph and it would not restart with the key. So i eased out on the clutch. Fired back up. Got to work it would not even jump start. Changed the hot wire connector on the drivers side and made sure i had a good connection and it would start, after new connector ends and solder. Changed the alt and still it is extreamly slow to pick up the voltage on the new alt after i started it 3 times and check the voltages. I am running yellow top optima batterys. I also load checked them after putting them on the charger for about 45 mins each. Does anyone have any ideas or input?

I know my alternator won't put out any current until it has had some idle time, a minute or so. If I start the truck, and bump up the idle, it won't break 12.4 volts for about 5 minutes. Weather this is due to the cycling of the grid, or the PCM, I am not sure.

That's what my truck does, if it is of any usefulness.
