Keep breaking u joints

A buddy of mine has a 2002 cab and chassis regular cab 4x4, and he is going through u joints about every 1000 miles. The truck i stock height, too. They don't break, but the trunnions wear about halfway through inside the caps. He can't figure it out, and is getting irritated about replacing them. What should we start checking?

I would maybe look into balancing the driveshaft.

go spicer non greasables
I completely disagree with this, I prefer greaseables. But then again, I'm the kind of guy that has the facilities and drive to make sure everything is properly serviced. I agree on the drive shaft balance check. For the speed they turn, they need to be perfectly balanced. 1 ounce at 60 MPH is equal to 7.5 ft. lbs. of force. Doesn't sound like much, but its enough.

I will suggest the balancing. He is buying the Spicer joint.

Turns out the pinion bearings were worn badly causing deflection in the yoke wearing the joints.

That is a common problem with the torque of these motors over time.Glad u got it fixed.
