blown gear cover gasket
Any body had this happen? I believe it to be from Engine brake pressure, but not sure I fixt it with epoxy fo now. I know it's just a bandade but it's been good for about 5k miles. To pull the cover requires pulling the cam which I'm not looking foeward to. Just wondering if anyone else has seen the problem. I had the same thing happen to a 98' 12valve after putting a pacbrake on. The engine ends up being an oil resudue disaster because the fan sends the oil vapor everywhere.

Are you sure this isnt from the puke bottle? Have you relocated the puke bottle?
|
I just tried to post the manual from Cummins for a fix to that with the part number for their kit for the 98.5-02 trucks. It seeems the 4 page instruction manual in PDF form is to big due to the forums constraints(the file is 2.38MG and the furms limit is 1.91MB).
So here is the part number for the kit from Cummins..... Crancase Ventilation Kit part number....CV50115 |
Dr. Evil's got a point there. A while back I pitched the puke bottle, it made about the same mess, and hooked up a hose routed down and back to behind the tranny. I'm doing brakes on it today so I'll pull the hose at the gear case and see how much back pressure there is.
Hammer, I'd really like to see that PDF, anyway I can find it on the net? Is it a rewok or just a replacement system? thanks to all |
I'd like to have a look it it as well.

what does one of them run?
$296.96 This is off a site but I have seen it for a little cheaper. http://hoeslidiesel.com/store/ Im sure one of the sponsors here could do something better. |
Hey thanks guys for all the input. Got the PDF saved. I just finished all brakes including the park brakes. Then fixt the left rear speaker.
I blew air through the vent hose and I did have a blocked line. Probably from a low spot. It took a bit of pressure to make a total mess on the floor of black puke. This is more than likely the cause of the blown gear cover gasket, like the good Dr Evil suggested. Gotta do something different but I really wanted to spend that $300 on a 4" exaust, not a new breather system. What about the PVC system I saw on anothe post on this site? Anyone else familiar with that? Anyone using the Cummins Fix? |
