5 speed swap

If I wanted to swap in a 5 speed from a 95 2wd 2500 into a 98.5 4wd 2500, what would the complications be?

I know that the tailshaft would have to be swapped out, but other than that?

If the 98.5 is an auto then you would have to poke holes in the floor and fire wall for the the shifter and clutch pedal. Yes the tailshaft and housing will have to be changed. The driveshafts might have to be lengthened or shortined, but not for sure. Other than that I think thats about it.

I'm really surprised no one else on here has swapped from an auto to a manual. I guess I will be one of the first?

I've done them before. The hole is in the fire wall for the master cylinder. You really need to find the ECM/PCM out of a 5 speed truck to make it work like factory. The transmission actually needs tore down and the mainshaft has to be changed. The 2wd mainshaft is longer then the 2wd. I have a thread were I did it somewere on hear. Let me see if I can find it.

Okay I found it. This should awnser most of your questions and if you have anymore ask. I've done many 2wd and 4wd conversion from atuo to manual and vice versa. I'm getting things ready now to do an allison to ZF6 swap. click hear
