Fram are bad oil filters been know to break off (very small piece) and clog up the cooling nozzels to cool the rings on the pistons.Heres a nice kit for you if your truck is stock and yes these are the good filters...Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage this helps.:tu:

May be easier to make a list of good ones. :)

Baldwin
Hastings
Fleetguard (local Cummins dealer)
Napa Gold (at your local napa)
Mobil1

I generally use the fleetugards and either buy them at the local cummins dealer or order them from Geno's.

Ive always had good luck with Fram.

I've heard bad of fram, no offense, but for good I usually run wix (usually napa branded) but I'm trying out an amsoil aE or whatever this time around. someone who sells ams remind me why this filter is awesome?

if your running amsoil the filter will last the length of the oil. It's a synthetic media and has a lot more filtering capacity. eao80

Um no. A mechanic buddy of mine has rebuilt more than 1 Cummins with a K&N on it.

Fleetguard Stratapore LF3894 is the ONLY oil filter to put on these beasts.

I have always run Wix filters and Shell Rotella oil. Never heard anything good about fram. The bypass valve they use allows the particles that are trapped in the oil to go back through the motor.

The guy that works of my truck, actually showed me the technical service bullitin or whatever it was that Cummins put out, specifically saying not to use Fram. Had one on my truck first time he opened the hood, and got yelled at! Only run those that specifically say they are approved for Cummins.

I'm running John Deere oil filters. They seem to be doing a good job, and as I can see the "behind the scene" information, they are well made.

Yes, Fleetguagrd LF3894 works on both the second gen 12V and 24V engines.

well to me I would rather be safe and buy some oil and a filter and not a motor.

Thats up to you - we cant make decisions regarding your truck.

x2!! They're made by Fleetguard for Deere, and very reasonably priced.

diesel lover13 02-25-2010 06:36 PM

awsome thanks for all your help guys im gonna go buy one to be on the safe side. i love my truck and dont want anything bad to happen to her:tu:

oneil250 10-25-2012 09:25 PM

Im very surprised that no one has mentioned the Donaldson oil filter. Its probably the best filter out there. Right up with Fleetguard and Baldwin anyway. I would never use a s***ty Fram either, the piece that holds the pleats together is cardboard and those filters are known to collapse. Not worth it at all.
