24 Valve Identification
I am looking for 1998.5-2001 dodge for my dad and he wants a 24 valve. A lot of online car sales sites do not specify .5 and just say it is a 1998. From my understanding if the eighth digit in the VIN is a 6 it is a 24 valve cummins. Can anyone confirm this?

98.5 an up is a 24v

best way to tell is have the lot pop the hood and tell you. I would venture to guess 95% are 24v as I would rather have the 12

The badges on the door will also say Cummins 24valve Turbo Diesel if in fact it's a 24. They just say Cummins Turbo Diesel if it's a 12v.
Yah, a true 1998 is the holy grail of 2nd gens. 12v motor with a 24v interior. You can't beat a 12v to death.... VP44's are the bain of 24v owners everywhere. |
12Vs have a different valve cover.
Yes, if the 8 digit in the vin is a number its a 24V - if its a D its a 12V Also, keep in mind, some 98 12Vs have the old interior and some dont have the quadcab. |
i got one what you looking for
:humm: |
ask to see pics of the engine, looking for the difference between a PPump and a VP44...and like Andyman said, if you see a shot of the door, on a 12v, it'll say CumminsTurboDiesel, but on a 24v, it'll read Cummins 24VTurboDiesel...
