pulling #5 and 6 injectors
my buddy was changing the injectors in his 02 and it didnt look like there was much room to pull the last two. i looked on all data and they said you have to pull the engine to get the injectors out. i know there is another way just dont know how

The hardest part is reaching the back of the engine. They pull out just like 1-4

it is tight but you can do it. use the short intake horn bolts and a washer and a nut to make a mini slide hammer with.

I just recently removed all 6, and putting 5 and 6 back in is harder than taking them out. As listed above, use the short intake bolt. I used a small pry bar and pried between the head of the bolt, and a rocker arm. As long as you don't go crazy, and you shouldn't need to, there is no negative effect of prying on the rocker. As for putting them back in with new o-rings, that's time to get clever. I used the same small pry bar, and the inside injector retaining plate bolt. :tu:

With the shorter of the intake elbow bolts, you thread it into the top of the injector as far as you can by hands, then rock the injector around as your pulling up. You will feel a suction, then it will let go, you will hit your hand on the cowl, you'll laugh, then move onto the next one. It seems like a weekly project and takes around 30 minutes to do now :)

i never had a problem removing 5-6. i used one of the boltsthat hold valve vover on. make sure u have the crossover tube poped out a lil so u dont mess it up. good luck with it :tu:

It's not a ford, it's a REAL ENGINE in a REAL TRUCK!!!
|
yea these guys covered it well. Brother and I just did mine. Took about 2 1/2 hrs and we are not very exp mechanics, just your everyday cummins fan learning as we go. 5 and 6 were rough but like RA said we used the rocker arms to create leverage. I laid in the engine bay with my feet hangin out over the front of the truck on my stomach the whole time... Needless to say i got a good work out:argh:... also we found a small mirror to make sure the washer and o ring made it in right...be sure to make sure the 'thing' (part that bolts the injector in place) will bolt back down before you tighten the crossover tube stuff cuz i got myself messed up there... thought things were lined up but i was wrong, cross over tube wouldnt lock in! BUT... its not to bad!!

:tu: It will go better next time, good going.
