APPS TPS Okay to drive?

I have the P0122 Code on a 1998(.5 I understand now) and I am sure the APPS sensor is shot. I am deciding if I am going to order an OEM one or get one from Timbo. How far can I drive it or should I not at all? Thanks for the help.

I just put the Timbo in a few days ago and so far so good. It's a lot cheaper, easier to install and seems to be a slid design so take that for what it's worth comin from somebody with less then 100 miles on it yet.

As far as drivin it, that's a coin toss. It could lean out the fuel delivery and cause some problems there or it could go completely out and you limp home at idle speed or it could run just fine. For the money though, order up that Timbo and then you don't have to worry about it.

For future reference though so there is no confusion, if you have these sensors then you have a 24V 1998.5 and not a 12V 1998.

Drive it as far as you want. Just realize that it could dead pedal at any time. Like when your pulling out in front of a 80,000 truck and oncoming traffic.

I ordered on from timbo as well that was 2 months ago and have had no problems what so ever has been great and alot cheaper than the OEM's. And yea drive it but be ready for the dead peadal. :scare2:

Cruise control bypasses the APPS. makes it drive a lot better.

The cruse control doesn't bypass the APPS. When Mine went out it had the same problems in or out of cruse. A quick fix that I found until you get your new one in is with the truck on in neutral Stomp on the pedal a couple of time to the floor quickly. It seems to clean up the resister a little. It would last me a couple of hours. I also recommend the Timbo APPS.

Howdy, after putting in 25 gals of fuel, the truck showed the following codes 237 (MAP sensor), 1691 (fuel injection cal error)and 121 TPS / APPS error. Looking at the posts on this site am I in for a new injection pump MAP sensor and APPS ?. The bad news is this is the conclusion I'm coming up with. :argh:

Don't buy a new pump until after you have this one bench tested. You have to pull it to have it done but your gonna pull it no matter what so that doesn't matter. My local Bosch shop charges $100 to do this but when i took mine in here recently they just checked the codes on it and didn't charge me anything because the codes told em it was bad without even having to test it.

The MAP sensor can be cleaned and tested before you replace it, same thing with the APPS. It can be checked and even re-set to see if that fixes the issues. Hate to see money spent when you don't need to.

Thanks for the info, not if we ahve a bosch test bench in the area, I'm going to cal the APPS and I'm trying to figure out how to remove the connector on the MAP sensor. I'm not sure which way the red clips on the connector go. I installed it when I put the Quadzilla on, but that was in the of summer (08).

Use this to find your nearest Bosch center. Finding a Service Center

Give me a few and I'll try to find the best guides for doing the APPS, we have a few on the site, some better then others.

Here's the APPS Guide. Read through the whole post before starting anything. https://www.dieselbombers.com/24-val...tomy-apps.html

Well after more rescearch and talking to a local cummins mech, we do have a facility close. The nearest may be 3 hours away (6hour) round trip. I'm going to check the APPS toworrow, clean the MAP sensor and from what I'm seeing will replace the VP 44 next week. With all the codes and info from a number of sites I'm comfortable with what I'm seeing. I really do appreciate your help, Skip :c:

Funny It did with mine. Mine would dead pedal and I could hit resume and it would hold speed and drive fine. Must have been lucky I guess.
