99 dodge questions

hey guys i bought a new to me truck its a 99 dodge 3500 auto and its got 78,000 mile bone stock. And the problem i have every once in a while the truck will just bog down and then pick right back up and blow black smoke. I need to check fuel pressure but have to find a gauge, so is this where i need to start thanks for any input.

if its stock your gonna have to check the pressure on top of the Fuel filter canister, take her for a good hard ride:w2: let us know what you come up with for pressures.. also how is your air filter? when the truck bogs down does the service engine light come on? mine bogged down and stayed bogged and my light was on, turned out to be a MAP sensor.. but if your light is off.. ??

no check engine light and no codes i scanned it with a obII scanner. The air filter was just replaced. The truck only does it for a split second then it picks right back up. Thanks for your help

could be a lift pump, or worse your VP... deffinetly need to check fuel pressure, how often does this do it? just started doing it, do you notice it doing it more when your fuel level in the tank is low?
just throwing some ideas out there..

Sounds like APPS or VP44.
