MPG Drop

have an 01 4x4 quadcab long box. I have not change anyting in a while and my mpg has dropped on the last three tanks from 20-22 on the hwy and 17-19 in town to 15 in town and 17-18 on the hwy. I have had no power loss nor any changes in my driving habbits in the last few months. I do regular mantanice oil, clean my filter ect...I have run injector cleaner through it with no change does anyone have any sugguestion?

Have you changed the fuel filter? Are there any strange things happening to your truck? White smoke, dead petal, rough idle, hard starts, any of that? Also check your oil level to make sure there is no diesel leaking into the oil.

I put an Airdog on my truck almost 2 months ago, so the filter is good. Nothing strange. Great power, black smoke (only) on demand, pedle stiff, starts great and good idle. When I get back on shore Friday, I wll check the oil.

you in so-cal or utah?

could be winter fuel.....

01trailerpuller 12-01-2009 03:56 PM

I have been fueling in San Diego Ca. as of lately. Do they do winter fuel in Ca?

DazedandConfused 12-01-2009 04:29 PM

I think winter fuel goes everywhere. That would be my guess. I know my mileage has droped due to that.

01trailerpuller 12-01-2009 04:38 PM

Thank you all for your help. This sucks I drive 400 miles a week and 2-4 mpg will cost me about $30-40 a month.

DazedandConfused 12-01-2009 05:11 PM

I hear ya man it does suck. Usually around May it goes back to summer fuel.

blkjack 12-01-2009 05:22 PM

Mine is down about the same and was wonderin if that was why cause of the winter fuel. Although one good thing I just put a new apps on my truck because I was havin some surging issues and the couple of times i reset the apps would work and then come back, but now have a better throttle response and my mpgs did go up alittle will now how much more at next refill. But yea was thinkin the winter fuel has some to do with it too. :humm:

yea thats going to suck when we start getting that winter stuff its supposed to snow tomm lol Yay lol I love snow

DazedandConfused 12-01-2009 06:02 PM

It started winter blend in the begining of November you should already be getting it.

NCFPD 12-01-2009 06:08 PM

well I aint sure I get my diesel From AN FS farm supply store it is cheaper and the only place in my county the next place is 40 miles away but with my ADDR set on pl2 max milage i was getting 22mpg

01trailerpuller 12-01-2009 06:31 PM

I was curious to know the differance between winter blend and summer. I found this on the net. http://www.filtercouncil.org/techdata/tsbs/91-1R3.pdf It gives what and why they do it.

Captn_tyler 12-01-2009 09:35 PM

Mine MPG were never that high :td: How do you get 20+ mpg out of these things? I am lucky with the low 16's

NCFPD 12-01-2009 09:40 PM

I get close to 22 on the hwy all i have is cold air intake 285/75/16 tires raptor 150 and quad addr but thats about all just control your foot and what typ of land do you travel hills or flat land we have all flat land

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

th other thing is and i dont know if it would make a diff. but the type of trans

ja-mudder 12-02-2009 05:03 AM

I run 35s and even with out the chip if im gong 65 or 1500 rpms 19 to 20 is normal 23is best with the chip:c:

01trailerpuller 12-02-2009 11:16 AM

I run 33s and 75mph almost everywhere I go not under load. I have found that using cruse control really helps and keeping my edge on mileage, during the summer I average 20-22mpg. If I go 65 I have hit up to 26mpg. I am also only running 40hp injectors and I have a low stall TC with a torque lock that I run every time I get up to speed. But with this winter fuel at best I am hit 18-19mpg doing my 75mph.

NCFPD 12-02-2009 01:13 PM

that sucks man i would have to assume its the fuel is there any additives that you can put in there brandon to make it de winterise it
