I personally havent done the KDP fix but have researched it and IMO it would be easier to pull the cover and put the small tab over the pin would be cheaper and easier again IMO. The jig looks pretty cool but would prob cost alot more too and from what that site is saying you may have to pull the cover anyway if the pin has worked out plus looking at the pin you know whether its there or not. Just my thoughts on the KDP issue. :w2: Good luck and let us know what you do on this.

For what it's worth, I can have the front cover apart, KDP fixed and back together in probably less time than it takes to use the jig.

I didnt think they were a problem with the 24 valve? im not a vp guru lol. but i thought cummins fixed it in like 98. then i thought the 53 casting block was the problem for the 24 valves like the kdp to the 12 valve. sorry for my ignorance

You dont really want to do the jig. The other bolts that hold the case to the block should be pulled (one by one) and loctited too.

No not necessarily. Dodge kept using the old cases until they ran out. So some 24Vs have the old cover and some have the new updated cover that holds the pin in. There are cases where the pin has dropped on an 02.

:scare2:Oh dont tell me that Dr. I thought:humm: that i was safe with my 02 and didnt have to worry about the kdp dont have the dredded 53 block now going to have to check for the kdp:argh:. Thanks for the info though its good to know and yea it makes sense they are not just going to throw away a surplus of blocks or parts for that matter they are going to use them up till their gone. :dang:

Even the guy that developed this whole jig kit years ago has stopped using it and suggesting to all the truck owners that had their trucks done to have them re-done the right way. As Doc said, by pulling the cover your checking several different problem parts all at once and for the 98.5 and newer trucks, if you use this jig how do you know your not drillin a hole in an already updated cover.

KDP can be done in two hours including beer breaks. I have one to do here in the near future and now I'm thinking about checking my 02 as well.....
