a couple of questions

my truck is idleing at 900 rpm and i cant get it to go down. how do i fix this? also when i take off from a stop and turn my truck pops and some times shakes. dose anyone have any ideas what that might be?

DieselDanBoy 11-06-2009 08:15 AM

check your timing

well 900rpm at idle is normal. the timing is not likely not causing your pops and shakes. do you have a fuel pressure gauge or a good lift pump on the truck

Check you fuel pressure and error codes?

900 RPM at idle seems high to me. I see idle just under 800. There may be an issue here with the CAM or maybe even with the APPS. Try resetting that sensor by taking off the batteries and going through the procedure of reconnect after 12 hours. It isn't hard but you have to take your time. The procedure is on here somewhere.

Next, how hot does it run? Do you know if there is any timing increase on it? What about after market injectors? More fueling can cause weird things like this.

I would suggest getting a smarty on the truck and setting it to stock ECM from that box. Then, see what it does. Next, I would use the same box and check the codes and then I would crank it up to say setting 5 and run it and see what it does, then return it to normal if you don't have gauges installed.

x3

Have you checked codes?

900 rpm is high.

Does it only pop on corners ? If so, and if it is a 4x4, check your axle u-joints

big baby sweets 11-07-2009 06:13 PM

Yes it only pops on corners. and no i haven't checked my codes because my check engine light has not come on. I believe that it is running 15 psi fuel pressure. :humm:

cummins24 11-07-2009 06:51 PM

sometimes you may still have codes even though the check engine light isn't on.

If it only pops on corners check your axle ujoints as well as the rest of the front end Balljoints ETC. Does it shake any at highway speeds? Your 2nd gen rams are notories for deathwobble from there POS tracbar. For as the engine goes get the trsty scan tool out and then go from there.
