Transmission Ideas
well i got a 99 cummins with an auto tranny and i need some ideas on either how to beef it up or should i buy an already built tranny....thought bout dropping a nv4500 in but i dont know how hard itd be any ideas?? Thanks!!

just build the auto you will like it better. or buy one ready to go.
If you have a good diesel transmission builder have them do a Suncoast Extreme Rebuild Kit, Triple Disc Converter and a Suncoast Valve Body. Or just let Suncoast build it for you to there specs and drop it into your truck.
I like the drop in trans. but that is me simple and easy.buy one all ready done 3 hours you have a new trans.
where is suncoast based out of because i live in b.f.e. kansas and about how much would it take to have them build it up i dont know of any good tranny builders around here....Thanks!!

Here is there site.Sun Coast Converters Diesel Transmissions, Fort Walton Beach FL
Here is there location,819 Navy St. • Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547 .Or you can go with a Goerend Transmission Inc.he is located in119 North Main Street, St. Lucas Iowa, 52166 and here is his site Goerend Transmission Incorporated .Hope this helps |
so is it true you can go out and spend like 200 on a transgo and get decent product while actually helping your trans. I have a nice TC but no valve body. and i dont really have money now to drop into a nice VB. just thought ive seen that floating around here and there

a Shift kit is better than a stocker but an aftermarket VB is still the best way to go.
hmmm your right though. :humm: ...i may be forced to go with a kit though. Not a cent of spending money. lol
It beats the stocker. Just make sure you have someone that knows what there doing and have installed Transgo kits before.
You can pay a shop to put a shift kit in or you can buy a VB that's already done and install that yourself, probably going to end up comparable in price...I think you're better off buying a VB from a reputable diesel trans place like Georend or Suncoast that has thousands of repeated good results. Any transmission shop will tell you "yeah I know all about those dodge cummings transmissions and I can put a shift kit in that thing for you...". And yes, I learned that the expensive way. :argh:
Contact both Dave Goerend and Suncoast and ask them if they have any dealers or can recommend a trans shop nearby. Dave's used to talking to transmission shops and going over specific details with them if he doesn't have a vendor in your area. It's really not terribly difficult to do yourself, it takes far more time to get the trans out and back in than to do the actual parts installation. |
