Don't want to sound like a funny guy here but are you sure it was the turbo you were hearing and not your cooling fan engaging? I'm just thinking if the turbo is running it's running but pulling a load puts extra work to it and it may be your fan gave it up. Gauges would be very helpful here to see boost and temps
