Dodge 3500 brakes shutter rear wheel hop

Is there any 3500 dodge owners that experiance rear wheel shuttering or hopping when normally braking. Is there a known speed sensor problem?

Speed sensor would have nothing to do with a shudder or hop... Sounds like you have contaminated brake shoes (from a leaky wheel cylinder or wheel seal) or possibly some broken parts in the drum...

Its worth pulling the rear drums to have a look.

It feels like an anti lock brake pulseing. There is a speed sensor in the brake system thats how it references when the tire starts to skid. Changed shoes to try to fix the problem even turned drums no broken parts.

I guess it could be an ABS issue... The sensor is on the top of the rear differential, and I believe it is held in with one bolt. Maybe there are teeth broken off of the ABS ring in the diff? Anyways, pull out the sensor and peek through the hole with a light and see if there are broken teeth. Probably want to put the rear axle on jack stands/trans in neutral/park brake off so you can spin the d-shaft and watch the ring turn.

My guess would be a bad master cylinder, proportioning valve is bad.

I'm not sure but don't they have a brake proportioning valve above the axle that is hooked to a linkage that senses when you have a load on the truck (suspension compressed) That limits brake power to the rear axle when unloaded? If it was at fault and was giving 100% brake power to the rear axle when empty I think it would act like what you are experiencing?

i had the same prob whith my 01 but the break light on dash was on. By luck i unpluged the wire above the rear end and my abs light stays on but no wheel hop and stops fine ill fix the prob latter. But it only takes a second to unhook the plug an see what you have . Mine has been runnin for a month like this whith no prob.:U:
