Wiring Problem
Ok fellas I have a bit of an issue. I have a short in the wiring somewhere in my truck. The problem is my left headlight is always on. Even with the key removed. The only way I can get it to shut off is remove the battery cable.
The right front headlight and turn signal/marker light don't work. The right blinker is spastic like it has a bulb burned out. However I checked the wires with a voltmeter and there is no power going to those lights. Sometimes when the right blinker is on all my marker lights flash. Also sometimes the right turn signal arrow on the dash is lit up and the right turn signal doesn't work. However when it does this the left headlight doesn't stay on. It shuts off like its supposed too. I swapped out the headlight switch and the turn signal/dimmer switch with ones from a another pickup and that didn't fix the problem. I'm thinking the next place to check is the distribution box. Anybody have a wiring diagrahm? Or can you let me know which wires do what and go where? Thanks guys. |
I would look into the relays,Ive seen them short out and stay normally closed, without grounding themselves out.Check the blinker relay round reley in the fuse block inside the truck(i think)replacement is the only thing I would do for that one its cheap. Then go into the fuse block under the hood and check the relays for the headlights. Also seen lights blow out the filament in the light and fuse the two electros in the light and cause wierd problems.Check all fuses to,seems like you know what you are doing that the first thing I would have tryed is swap the switches.I hope this helps this is what i have come across in my years.:humm:Keep me updated let me know whats going on.I would not tear apart the wiring yet.Did this just happen one day?

I found the problem. It was in the wiring. Lets just say it involves a fan and a missing part of a fan shroud. I would post some pics but I'm headed to Cheyenne for the rest of the week. I'll have to splice a bunch of wiring but hopefully I didn't short out anything too major (like the ABS computer) |
I've seen that before.....actully the whole wiring harness under the radiator was neatly wrapped around the fan lol

I got lucky. It only chopped them up.
