Leaking oil

Need some help! im leaking oil kinda bad right now! there a really noticeable line of oil about 3 inches below the vp44! if my truck is sitting idle i can leak bout 1 or 2 table spoons of oil! from what ive heard and been told its the power steering/vacuum pump gasket? is this true or anyone have ideas because i hear it a big job to tackle! also heard i should rebuild the power steering pump/vacuum pump while its out?? hope someone can help me cause id like to start on it tomorrow if all possible Thanks

yeah they tend to leak, might just be a bad fitting at one of the PS lines...im assuming this is motor oil and not power steering fluid

yea its motor oil! what should i check for before i tear into it! anything small and simple first! this leak has made a mess under the cab a such! i already checked this oil pan bolts just messing around.

its is easyer to remove the power steering pump then the vacuum pump rather than all in one shot

Gibby 07-26-2009 09:58 PM

so first take off the power steering pump off then the vacuum pump! i hope i can do this! any way u can give some step bys to coach me along

My suggestion before tear down is a good steam clean and look over.

I have seen oil leaks do strange things.

I would suggest a good steam clean and check before you tear down.

You will be able to pin point it more precisely that way.

yes deffinatly take it to the pressure washers first, makes the job 10 times easyer. first would be to pull the powerstearing lines off the back of the power steering reservour/pump. after that there are 4 nuts holding the pump to the vacuum pump 14mm i believe, may be wrong. onece thats off and out of the way pull the vacuum pump oil feed and drain lines off the pump. once them are off there is 2 nuts holding the vacuum pump in place, pull them off and the vacuum pump should pull right out

i cleaned it bout a month ago and never could find nothin! biggest problem is findin it! ill sure clean it really good where i think it mayb coming from and let the truck run and hope i can c where the oil is running from first!

mine was leaking when i bought it, it was coing from between the vacuum pump and power stearing pump

Gibby 07-26-2009 10:17 PM

really well if it is between the p s pump and vacuum pump there should b a gasket there right. will that leak b notice able? after i pressure wash it tomorrow ill def post it and try and let ya know where i c the leak!
