Rear end identification

How do I find out what my truck has for a rear end? I thought it would be a Dana 70 but that isn't one of the options when I go to get seals at Autozone. Could I have an 80 in this truck or is it the 9 1/4", whatever that is?

Thanks everyone, I thought thats what it was. Now when I go to Autozone to get the seals for this axle I'm given the options: 60, 80 or "With 9 1/4" ring gear" is that the axle I should be ordering the seals for? I don't want to get my rear end apart and find out I have the wrong seals. Thanks again.

The problem here I think is the gasser 3/4 tons.

I am sure Uncle Bubba can shed some light on this.

Yeah, they need to input Diesel, cause' as far as I know you have a dana 70.
if you'd have had a 5 speed you would have had a 80.
I'd have them check and see if the numbers are the same, the hubs are probably the same.

unless the PO swapped in a 80.
the 70's cover is almost as wide as it is tall and the 80 is alot taller than it is wide.

Check in the glovebox. There is a piece of paper there to tell you. Or go to a dealer and they can do a vin# look up.:rocking:

If I'm not mistake the axle should also have what it is stamped on the third member forward of the axle tube. Let me do some checking and get back to you on that.

There should be a metal tag between two bolts on the cover that will have your Bill of Materials #. That is unless the PO got rid of it.

mine has it under the hood, check there

If you are still having trouble crawl under the truck and check the front side of the differential housing. Mine is cast into the housing on the upper right side.

The " with 9 1/4 inch ring gear" is the 1/2-ton rear end.
