Cant start?
Injection pump failure.
At least that's what it was when my truck did that.
I fired it up,backed up,put it in second, pulled forward about 10 feet, pushed in the clutch and it started running like crap, managed to get it to "run" buy standing on the throttle and turning it over, but it ran so awful that I just shut it off and went to get my "ram hauler"
Shuck's sells the fuel pressure gauge,it screws onto the Schrader valve on the injection pump.

The P1693 code is a companion code which sits inside the ecm that does not clear itself after another code has been present . See if you can get a scan tool and scan for more codes.
My 98 had pump problem that would do the same thing kind of once in a while then the v pump just quit and it would not start without some juice on the air cleaner.(I did it bt I DO NOT recomend it)
when my vp44 died all I got was the p1693 from the codes read off of the odometer. Lots of vp44 failures occur at about 120k, some sooner, some later. Hopefully it is something less expensive.
My truck had similar symptoms last weekend. Turned out to be the lift pump. You could try and remove the filter out of the housing, and have someone turn the key over while you are looking at the fuel level in the filter housing. If the level doesnt change, your lift pump is shot. If fuel level goes up, you prob lost your vp44. I hope this helps.
