i just recently bought a 02 dodge 2500 4x4 truck. its a automatic. but the turbo is different than all my other buddies dodges... the only difference in the trucks is mines automatic and theirs are standard... i talked to the guy i bought it from its the original turbo.. so did mopar put a different turbo on the automatics??? ill look this evening when i get home and try and get some parts numbers..

 

Yup, yours is a HY35 and they have HX35's. They have different size exhaust housing to help spool better for the autos so its not doggy due to the smaller exhaust housing.

 

On the back there is a step down, it is about 2.75 inches diameter on the inside in yes red ratter is right to help spool up faster . If you keep the truck stock to light moderate it is not to bad any more then 300 hp and bye bye turbo.
