Silencer Ring????

I see that some guys are talking about pulling the silencer ring out of the inlet of the turbo, what does that actually do for performance?

BlackDodge 03-29-2009 09:39 PM

Doesn't really do anything for performance, just make the turbo whistle more.
Add a BHAF and it increases the whistle.

yankeeflatsdiesel 03-29-2009 09:41 PM

Dumb question, what is a BHAF???????????

BlackDodge 03-29-2009 09:45 PM

Big Honkin Air Filter. You should be able to put it in the search and read all about it.

yankeeflatsdiesel 03-29-2009 09:47 PM

Thanks for the info, not up to speed on some of the lingo around here yet, still a newmie in a roundabout way. Do have a BHAF already, an S&B.:U::howdy:

BlackDodge 03-29-2009 09:51 PM

With that standard tranny and pull the silencer ring it will sound cool !!!:choochoo:

yankeeflatsdiesel 03-29-2009 09:53 PM

I think I will give it a try, as long as it doesn't get too annoying pulling the toy hauler to the dunes.:U::U::U:

BlackDodge 03-29-2009 09:59 PM

You will enjoy it. It's not like you cant talk over it, but it is noticeable.

I see in your signatue that you have a ceramic clutch. Does it grab really harsh?

BlackDodge 03-29-2009 10:06 PM

No cause it is a Dual Disk. But the Single Disk are pretty grabby.

yankeeflatsdiesel 03-29-2009 10:09 PM

Thanks for the info:U:

BlackDodge 03-29-2009 10:13 PM

lukesdiesel just installed a full ceramic SD in his truck and posted all about it.
Search (valair clutch) about the 5th one down.

yankeeflatsdiesel 03-29-2009 10:15 PM

texas503 03-31-2009 06:21 PM

pull the air filter elbow off of the turbo and remove the snap ring and it pulls right out. I used 2 screwdrivers to get the snap ring out, just make sure not to gouge up the housing it is aluminum and will peel off and if not careful will go through the turbo.

fastfreddie 04-03-2009 12:02 AM

i did it doesnt do any performance but sure sounds good.

Willl 04-03-2009 01:15 AM
