Default Cummins Surging??

I have noticed since i got the truck that when i start er up, the engine will surge every 5 to 7 seconds like a couple valves are working harder than the rest. than it seem to go away after a while. truck not warm yet? anyone else had this happen? i am losing power, im just wondering what it is. Thanks

idk what it is. i heard of this before from another cummins owner and no one seemed to figure out what it was.

its normal for a cold motor to act like this..............let er warm up and everything is fine

check to see if it does it in conjunction to the grid heater cycling! this does put some extra strain on the motor. if not i would have no idea.

just a thing to put out there!

mine does that as well, from what ive heard, its caused by two things, big sticks and a cold motor. youve got 150 stick like i do, let her warm up for a few minutes, then it should go away. its called valve knock, ive talked to cummins, they ask if i had checked my valve lash, so i did, adjusted it a little bit, and that seemed to help some.

When I'm running 3-cylinder high idle it drop rather hard in RPM's and stumbles everytime the grid heaters hit. But recovers as soon as they shut off again... Sound really nasty but it just keeps going...
