Default Boost Elbow

Boost elbow

is this only an option if youre running the edge juice? because i have these brass fittings at work that i can get for free so i dont have to pay the 25 bucks these guys are selling it for. will it matter or do anything if i do this without an edge?

im just trying to find all the things that i can do to my cummins for cheap (or free) to help build power and what not.

Theres several options for these elbows but yoy do need to use a real one. they may look like a plain ole elbow but they have a vent hole in them that slowly releases pressure and thats what fools you truck sensors.

An adjustable elbow will give you more control.

The function of the elbow is that a very small bleed hole allows some boost pressure from the compressor to be lost. This lower boost threshold is "seen" by the wastegate. So, if you have 20 psi at the compressor and you bled off 5 lbs, the wastegate will only get 15psi. This allows the compressor to build higher boost levels.

Essentially, the wastegate still opens at 20 psi. It just doesn't see the real compressor pressure. An adjustable elbow allows for more air to be bled than the Edge type elbow alone. If you have some precision drill bits, the Edge elbow can be opened up slightly and this will raise boost. Went too big? Peen the hole with an old check ball or a good punch.

These elbows do NOT raise boost on their own. This is the mechanical means to do so. The engines ECM will still defuel to 22 or so psi measures at the MAP sensor unless you have an aftermarket box or some boost fooler device plugged into the MAP sensor.
