IAT Sensor
Just started using the IAT gauge on my Pulse yesterday. Last night it was 17 outside when I started my truck. The IAT was reading 45 when the truck started. On my 20 minute drive it only got up to 61 and my water temp was 185. Now today I started my truck and it was 34 outside and my IAT was reading 70. We drove 5 miles into town and when we stopped to eat dinner it was reading 71. 1hr later I started the truck and the IAT was reading 110. Drove back home and it was back down to 65. Im thinking my IAT sensor either needs cleaning or replaceing and im hopeing this is whats causeing my surge cause my truck surges worse when its cold outside.
What kind of readings is everyone else getting on there IAT gauge? |
IIRC, it gets plugged with carbon, causing said problems. Should be able to use some MAFS cleaner to de-gunk it, and see if conditions improve.

Ya thats what im going to do...... Its worse on my truck since I got an Exhaust Brake
|
Yes, the e-brake causes it to get dirty pretty fast. Get yourself some electrical contact cleaner - its the best thing to use.
Luke - have a look at this: IAT sensor - Ram Diesel Problems and repair |
Anything like this on the 03? :humm: Or is thats whats located right on the air intake goin to the turbo? :pca1:

What's the temp reading before turning the key to the ON position? The grid heaters can affect the IAT readings.
That said, I made up a chart somewhere for ohms and voltage for IAT and MAP sensors. You would think I could find it somewhere.... I'll keep looking. Dave |
I'll check the temp tomorrow without letting the Grid Heater Cycle
|
The grid heater will kick on no matter what even if you don't wait for it to start... If its cold enough. And how would it register a temp without the key on?
|
Maybe if you turn it to ACC
|
You should see the same temp outside and IAT temps... BEFORE the engine starts. (I'm using a ScanGauge II) so I just turn the key to ON and tap the power button and IAT temp shown.
My ECT (Engine coolant), IAT and Outside temp always MATCH at start up time... As for cleaning I clean mine ever oil change I've got a exhaust brake! So here is my sensors in 5K-6K miles... http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/tips/c...ap-sensors.jpg |
