Wheel Spacers/Adapters

i asked for a qoute for some and was told to ask and see what every one thought about them. they said they wouldnt sell me any so i was wondering what was bad about them?

Wheel spacers on any vehicle are nothin better then a poor substitute for doin it right and cause problems in the long term. On our heavy trucks they are nothin but deadly. By moving the wheel out further away from the actual mounting point you are putting additional strain on the bearings, ball joints and U joints simply by the matter of leverage. When you add the heavy weights of our diesel engines and heavy framed trucks to the mix it's a disaster waitin to happen.

Ever had one a your wheels pass you up while your cruisin down the highway.:w2: I have, it's kinda cool after it's over and you can look back on it.

never thought about it straining the wheel bearings , ball joints and u joints more just moving them out one and a half inches.
the adapters i was looking at are like the ones they use for adating 8 lug to 10 lug but they are still 8 lug but stick out a little farther.

since adapters and spacers are out of the question, what would be the best way to keep the 3rd gen wheels and 305 tires from rubbing the control arm. i like the look of the 305 tires on the truck but i cant turn lock to lock and pulling a trailer you need to turn real sharp when backing up.

do i need to just give up on the 3rd gen wheels and look into buying new wheels down the road? :humm:

thanks by the way uncle bubba :c:

I think theres a company out there someplace that makes a different length control arms that pulls the axle back a few inches and gains some clearance to do this with. 3rd Generation guys go this route but I don't remember the details on it. Check around the 3rd Gen section, if you don't find anything there let me know and I'll move this thread to the tire and wheel section and somebody there can answer ya.
