need a new apps i believe.

my truck when it is in over drive it jerks when i get on it, mainly when the boost start coming up. i origonaly thought it might be overboosting and dufueling. so i got a power puck with a built in boost fooler. hooked it up yesterday, and it was pretty much un driveable. it would buck and cut out so bad anytime it i tried to accelerate. if i got it out of the throttle right away it will die on me. i had to pull it off. i was told to check the apps cause it might possible be that. well i checked it. it is putting out .510 and it calls for .633. so i tried to adjust it, the highest i could get it to adjust to was .580. it did make a little bit of difference but still doing it. do i need to get a new one to fix the problem? it wont be right away because i dont have the $550 the dealer wants for one. what do yall think.

thanks Eddie

You don't need to pay dealership prices for an APPS, there is a guy offering an aftermarket APPS for a fraction of the cost, I have one and have been happy with it. You can find the info here:

Sadly enough, that's pretty much all it is: a glorified resistor... :humm:

wow and they want $500 for it??? go to a new holland dealer and buy a resistor off a nh baler they are 50 bucks and looks almost the same lol

It is a over glorified resistor with 2 switches in side that why the alternate APPS was designed by a guy named Timbo...

it might no tbe reading right but its fixed now. hooked a hiper tech up to it and cleared the codes and now she runs like a top.

Thats like mine every once in a while. Got the dead pedal like that last month and happened before in July. It kinda comes and goes but the APPS is gonna need to be replaced.

When the apps goes bad, do they always throw a code?

biged681985 11-09-2010 11:59 AM

not all the time.

you can undo batterys, and don't forget once you turn your key on the first time dont start but put in on position and slowly put pedal to floor and let it come up slowly and this resets the apps

cummins24 11-12-2010 06:12 PM

you won't always get a CEL but usually the code is still stored so if you put a code reader on it you would more than likely see a code, most commonly P0121.

The Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) is a linear potentiometer. It provides the Engine Control Module (ECM) with a DC voltage signal proportional to the angle, or position of the accelerator pedal. In previous model years, this part was known as the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Diesel engines used in previous model years used a mechanical cable between the accelerator pedal and the TPS lever. Linkage and bellcranks between the TPS cable lever and the fuel injection pump were also used. Although the cable has been retained with the APPS, the linkage and bellcranks between the cable lever and the fuel injection pump are no longer used. The APPS is serviced (replaced) as one assembly including the lever, brackets and sensor. The APPS is calibrated and permanently positioned to its mounting bracket.

APPS Sensor Replacement

NOTE--This sensor can be replaced without replacing the bracket.
