Anyone have an opinion on this fuel pump??

Just trying to find a temporary affordable alternative to the high priced pumps until I can get some money. Any opinions

I took the link out so the intrusion thingy won't get anyone. Thanks Mopar1973man

no experience but i've heard of people runnin the holley black

DB Admin 12-10-2008 01:24 AM

Just about everyone has tried the cheap fix on the 24V LP , and just about everyone has spent more $$ on Replacements then it costs for a good pump ,
Personally i went threw 5 LP's . This is one thing that your better off getting the Air Dog

Air Dog, FASS or a mechanical LP called the MITUSA that runs off a belt. I wouldn't even waste your money on anything but one of these three. I know they're more money but your gonna spend even more after you buy the cheap ones over and over again. And in the end your gonna end up buyin the VP because of those cheap pumps also.

:iws: I wasted my money one cheap pumps i dont recommond it

Is the Walbro any good? I heard some talk about them awhile back.

DIESELDENT 12-10-2008 06:52 AM

I ran a holley black, it lasted all of 6 months. there not rated for diesel, its too thick. i was also running a bd pump mounted to the frame with a presure switch. just the cost of thoes two i could have bought an air dog.

Most all of the shops quit sellin Walbro's shortly after ULSD hit the pumps, it didn't seem to treat them very well.

in a year and a half I went through 3 holleys before I bought my fass. I tried filtering before the holley even had the big line kit on it. it's not worth being stuck somewhere with a dead pump. Mine totally quit in the middle of town just after the parade last year and dang near blocked one main exit of the area.

Mopar1973Man 12-10-2008 10:37 AM

Go with a Airdog or FASS... Do it right the first time!

That Holley pump is design just like the ol' stock Carters...

holley blacks suck, same as the blue ones not designed for diesel use and they burn up quick

puddlestomper 12-10-2008 12:15 PM

Ok, thanks for the input. I am going to use a cheapo for now, my stock pump quit. I only use it every other weekend right now, so hopefully I can save enough money to buy a FASS shortly.:w2:

I would like to interject a side note about holley black pumps. I currently have 2 of them in series, with the little brass screens removed (thick fuel you know) and they are running fine after a year and a half of almost constant use. I put about 40K miles a year on my rig. I have a solid 12 psi to the injection pump and have completely eliminated the stock lift pump from the fuel filter cannister and replaced it with an adapter plate I made from stainless. I have a pdf detailing my work and I assure you, they are cheap, easy to come by at your local Kragen or Chief and on the road, I have one spare blue in my tool box just in case I tear both of them off on something under me.
I like the idea of having them "in the wind" so they're easy to change out if I should get stuck for reason. Have you thought of how hard it'll be to change your pump int eh 'field'?
Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

It would not be that bad just a few bolt and connectors nothing 2 speed wrenchs cant handle... just depends like everything else just depends.

dukeboy_318 12-10-2008 03:09 PM

it wont be that hard for me, i still have a working factory lift pump still mounted, all id have to is hook the fuel line back up to the factory draw straw and rehook the wires up, i ran holley blues several times and after burning through one after the other on my 98, i wasnot going to mess with them on my 99, so i went fass, 145k later no problems or drop in pressure

Mopar1973Man 12-10-2008 06:50 PM

I Agree ^^^

After 5 Carter Campaign pumps... (Holley look alikes) :madd:

Its Easly Understandable that $500 is alot to come up with all of a sudden , it was for me thats why i kept throwing junk $65 parts at it well each time one of the $65 pumps went out it took a little bit of the life bar down on the VP44 , with the last pump 1 15psi Cater and 1 9 Psi Carter ran in series , It was a Flawless Victory in killing my VP44 , $1200 later here i am with a new VP44 and no Fuel Pump , Like shooting both feet at once , Now i have an Air Dog and i wish for you sake and most of the others that there was a Less than $100 fix but there just isnt

Relocated stock, replaced with a campaign, then a Holley Black. Finally put on a Raptor (Airdog without the filters). I finally stopped staring at my fuel pressure gauge all the time.

piperca 12-11-2008 09:40 PM

I'm still running my Walbro setup without any problems ... guess I got lucky with something for once! :w2:

I remember the fight you had trying to keep a fuel pump in your truck for a long time...:w2:

piperca 12-12-2008 12:37 AM

Yeah, I know, but I've had a constant 19+ PSI at idle/cruise and nothing less than 18 WOT since installing the Walbro.

Mr.Krabs 12-12-2008 09:12 AM

I tried this and that, two pumps in series, all that stuff.
Finally put a belt driven pump on,when i start it I get 15psi,it was expensive in the kit I bought, like $750 but in the long run it's worth it,it's got something like 250k on it now, same belt it came with.:yeah:

Also,I out an airdog on my moms truck,it seems to work great, but it don't see the miles my truck does,so it will be a little while before I know how the airdog holds up,not that it matters, since is got a lifetime guarantee.

Mopar1973Man 12-12-2008 09:56 AM

Basically what everyone is saying there is NO SHORTCUTS to a fuel system. Either do it right the first time or pay for it in the long haul... :argh:

How would you install a Walbro pump. Do you use the stock pump relay to power it. Bypass Regulator and what kind? I have one and the system i have isn't to my satisfaction. Modified Pulse Width that only gives me about 7psi at idle and drops to 5 before coming up to 15 WOT.
