Turbo Silencer Rings

i once heard you could take the rings out to maker a little louder is that true?

stkdram55 11-27-2008 10:30 PM

yeah its true but there is only one ring, pop it out throw it in your tool box and yes your turbo will be louder:U:

bobracing32 11-27-2008 10:32 PM

how hard is it, or how do i take it out

stkdram55 11-27-2008 10:35 PM

it simple you'll need to take off the tube that runs from the air box to the turbo, and you'll see what looks like a snap ring, get to small picks or screwdrivers and pry the snap ring out and then then the silencer ring will practically fall out, be careful not to gouge your turbo to bad when removing the snap ring but its not hard:c:

how much louder is it

stkdram55 11-27-2008 10:40 PM

you got a manual or auto?? its noticeable with a stock air box, if ya got an aftermarket intake its perty loud, I know you can hear mine more with the five speed than my brother in his auto

Not horribly loud but definitely noticeable, it sounds sweet! Its louder if you have and aftermarket intake on the truck as well.

When I first removed it, I wasn't sure I was going to like the whine I could now hear. I figured on a long trip it would get annoying. Within two days, I loved the whine of the turbo. You can hear it spin up really well and when you shut it down, you can still hear the turbo spinning down. Too cool... The aftermarket intake definitely makes a difference.:U:

Try it, you'll like it...:c:

stock 6 sp with juice and attitude. ill try to pop out the ring tomorrow and see how it sounds.

I found that a small straight blade screw driver made it a whole lot easier. It's a snap ring. Start the end and worked my way around. About half way around, it fell out in my hand. Then remove the ring. Very easy.

I didn't keep mine, but it makes sense to hold onto it.:U:
