01 transmission

one of my buddys has an 01 6 spd and when he shifts into 6th there is a faint grind what could be wrong with it?

Whit 11-20-2008 09:53 PM

has he been racin it..speed shiftin, sounds like a syncro

best thing he can do for the NV5600 is to change the oil about every 50k

01dodge 11-22-2008 11:20 AM

no hes acually pretty easy on it just every once in a while he will run it hard but no speed shifting

dukeboy_318 11-22-2008 09:40 PM

i also agree, could be a syncro or heck even a bearing but i lean more towards the syncro. i say drain the tranny and see if you see any metal flakes in the fluid

TheNatural31 11-23-2008 08:42 PM

Yep...sounds like a sycro to me as well. Drain it, inspect it and re-fill with fresh fluid!:U:

01dodge 11-23-2008 09:28 PM

ok we will try that , thanks

Mr.Krabs 11-24-2008 09:32 AM

Racing a 6speed :booo:
maybe he's not shifting into 6th right too, sometimes if a person times it just wrong it will kinda grind a little.

I've had Amsoil in my tranny for a while, still works good.
415k or so on it now.

Dr. Evil 11-24-2008 10:15 AM

Its also important to use the correct fluid.

Mr.Krabs 11-24-2008 11:37 AM

Yeah, and the fluid that comes in the 5600 ain't cheap.

dukeboy_318 11-29-2008 11:19 AM

yeah like 2o bucks a quart:booo:
