Need advice on head!!

So i just got done putting the head back on my truck after having it ported and polished, and everything was goin smooth as always until i got to #1 cylinder intake rocker....I torqued them all down to 30lbs but #1 never clicked and just kept on truckin. Got to lookin and found out that the threads in the head pulled out...so what's next. Do i drill it out and use a helicoil or does someone know of something better? I really don't want a new head as I just had it worked. I appreciate your input!

I'm pretty sure a Helicoil is you're only option. I don't see anything wrong with that, as long as it's done right. I'm no expert on these type of things tho.

Your Only Option if you dont want to take the block out and cut it for the bigger studs.
In the same respect...I wont dare say that helicoils will hold high boost numbers

UMMM, he's talkin' about the bolt that holds the rocker arm/pedastil to the cylinder head, not the head studs.
But I agree, helicoil on a head stud, no way!!!

woops, Didnt read all of it.

Helicoil will do no good in that area! Theres to much movement and pressure in that area.

Make sure you get correct drill size
with your Helicoil. I have used Helicoils
many times with no problems.

Well i just got the helicoil put in my head and it went very well as I have used them in the past. Fired her up and seems to work like it never happened....but one question I have is why cant you drill those threads out and put bigger bolts in all of them just for the added strength?

mysterync 10-05-2008 09:58 AM

If you add strength by upping the size of the bolt, you still reduce the strength of the material around the bolt.

The helicoil works on the compression of the bolt pressing against the helicoil and the new threads. Under high vibration THEY WILL fail. Just be wear your rocker stand may break off!
