Stealth Plate

may sound stupid but has anyone fabricated their own stealth plate?

It would be a serious pain to do. Mostly just to get the VP tap in exactly the right spot, it has to be right on the money. If you miss by the smallest margin it's either not gonna make connection in the best case scenario and worst case cost you over a grand for a new pump. Then you have to tap some threads in.

If they were expensive to buy it may be worth the time it would take but they're cheap. Just call Blue Chip Diesel and he'll have it to ya within a few days.

Theres a thing called a "posi" tap which i used and DID get my pump warrantied after a few months. I got a flathead and scooted the heat shrink down around the 2 wires of the pump and pierced the top one. once i took it off i just used a heat gun and it sealed right over the pin hole i made. I know Napa has them. But do a google search so you know what they look like. Its like a tire valve stem thats got a needle in it that makes a really small puncture.

yes i have made a strealth cover. no i did not use it. it was just a see if i could. maybe down the line ill make a nice custom one. but for the price and inshurance of it being correctly made. buy one from a vendor!

unless you have a shop and a mill. then go for it!

I know the posi taps work cause I had one for the first few years i had the Comp installed. Then the wire broke because moisture still got into it and corroded, left me stranded in a parking lot and had to have it towed. That was an expensive venture by the time Cummins figured out what the problem was and had to tear it all apart to re-wire that little 3 inch stretch.

Only thing I will ever recommend now is the cover. Point blank, period, end of story. After years in the trailer business seeing how some of these shops tap into wires and how they seal em I can say first hand that no matter how well it's done, it creates a weak spot in the wire that will at some point go bad.
