I know - grasping at anything is less painful than buying a VP-44...lol

And I agree, always try the simple, cheap stuff before bucking up for a new IP.

If you are getting P0216 - the pump is very likely on its last legs. This code does not lie. The truck may be running fine right now, but I would not take it on any long trips as this could result in an expensive tow bill. Adjusting the APPS isnt worth the effort.

If Doc says it's a VP, then just go buy one. I been tryin to prove him wrong for better then 10 years now now and never have done it yet. Not on nothin, not even some small little thing that means nothin. Not even once.:madd: :madd:

No it isn't BS. You are a great source of information and no one should discount your ability to recall - Not even me! lol

Anyway, Po216 is bad news. There isn't much that you can do except park the truck if that is going to cost too much.:pca1:

When I first read it, I knew it was the pump. Our 2001 did the same thing, got great mileage, great takeoff. Except for some times it would dead pedal. We were trying to just cross the road one day and it barely made it across...that was a pain in the nuts. No check engine light nothing, took it to autozone, p0216. Those idiots were talking about sparkplugs or something....numbnuts. Pensacola Diesel Inc. - DODGE/CUMMINS :: FUEL INJECTION PUMPS :: 1998-2002 Dodge Cummins Factory Authorized Rebuilt VP44 Fuel Pump that place has the cheapest, but some vendors here might be able to hook you up.

I had the same issue with my truck. Except I did not have a code at all. Put the cc on and it would go to a dead pedal after a mile or two of steady speed. Shove the clutch in and let it come back to an Idle and it would come back. This was after I replaced the LP with a FASS150.. Evidently the stock LP had already died and took out the VP...

Time to look for a vp... And make sure you have good FP...

Thanks to all who contributed their help and wisdom......We'll start looking for a new VP44 this week. John will just have to borrow my 06 megacab if he needs to tow anything. Who sells the best reman 44??
