2002 Cummins Codes and Dead Pedal
 
Hi everyone,
I have a 2002 24v cummins that was running fine up until a few weeks back when it started to act up.
first it was from rough idle pulsating tach all over. checked the codes PO 606,.237,and 238.

Disconnected the battery looked for wire damage and changed the map sensor. This resulted in the truck idling fine but now a dead pedal. Codes cleared also.

Changed the tps, calibrated it and all and nothing. Codes are back.

any help would be great.

BD intake, wastegate, 100hp injectors, all gauges. K&N, fass with inline filter, programmer superchip (red).

I think 2002 was the year they started using the cam sensor, maybe look there. Or the APPS under the right battery check and see what volts are.

Also check the connection to the VP44 IP and if its tapped for a programmer check that connection too.:c:

i have replaced the MAP sensor it was one of the codes, and also replaced the apps. Set it to the required voltage and did a pedal reset.

Nothing.

I will be trying to look at the wire harness, I believe the truck had a programer on it that was an inline one. Also will be looking at the fuel filters while Im there.

thinking it is a bad wire.

Noticed you mentioned apps under the right battery. On the passenger side.

I have heard about a shielded grey wire on the VP plug in one thread the guy said it was discolored like it had been hot and wasn't making connection.
Also try a simple APPS reset.

Tonight after work Im going to try an apps reset again and also work through all the wires from the ecm, map, apps, and gauges.

At one point I found out that the truck had an inline power programmer. I need to find where it was spliced into the harness.

I did find all of the wiring harness diagrams on another post which should help.

Went through the whole harness and wiggled the wire harness while running and nothing. Fuses all are fine, I had an old computer that plugged in under the dash which has been disconnected for some time.

Just disconnected batteries and going to reset the apps again.

the truck cannot find idle with my foot off the accelerator. After stepping on the gas pedal the truck idles fine.

When starting the truck I have no wait to start light. Also my temperature idiot sensor goes right to overheated.

Any other ideas.

You could have a fuse blown #17 (WTS light) or the Blk/orange wire is open from the PCM.
Check for the PCM not supplying the Cam sensor the correct 5 volts Violet/white wire at cam sensor plug.
Check the Orange wire at the map sensor also for 5 volts.
Also the PCM controls all the things you are having problems with ie: APPS,Temp,Map,WTS light.
Try unplugging the temp switch and see if the gauge still pegs,it should be a two wire plug tan/Blk and Blk/Lt blu.
let us know what you find out also check your grounds at the engine block.
The PCM is hard to get too its on the left side of the block. wiggle check that plug real good.
If the PCM is getting good Bat + voltage at pin 48 and a good ground at pin 49 the PCM may be bad.
But we can check some other things out before condemning it.
