fuel pump module

Anyone know of a source of a aftermarket fuel pump module for 01 ram diesel ? This is not the in tank pump , just has the sending unit . Dealer is unbelieveablely high .

Thanks for the reply. I pulled the module to replace sending unit and to clean the screen but as I was removing the screen it stuck and ripped the inside screen and they don't sell that cap with the screen , only the whole module........ For over 500$ . If I can't find a affordable fix I will just use it without that inside screen and change the inline filter every two or three months.

That will work ok most guys are just running a straw in the tank or a sump kit installed in the bottom of the tank. Most people run a good aftermarket lift pump like Fass or Airdog that has 3-5 micron filtration anyway. :tu:
It is interesting to note that some of the years between 1998.5 - 2001 have an electric pump in the tank module. Some say it was added later on as a (band-aid) way to help a already weak lift pump system on the block. Not sure if Dodge was doing this or maybe after market mine had one in it.

Is there a kit for the straw ? How do you do that ? Yes I think they changed in mid production. Mine was mounted on engine and has been replaced with a FASS

Anyone actually changed the sending unit on a 2001 ? Looks like it must snap in , there are no screws to remove and I can`t see how to disconnect the wires also . Anyone know how to do it ?

Jet A Fuel 06-25-2016 10:58 PM

Never seen one you couldn't remove here is a picture of a 1999 sender.

Yes I can see the screws for removal on yours but mine doesn`t have any screws . I`m sure it just snaps in but I don`t want to go prying on it without knowing how it should come apart

Jet A Fuel 06-25-2016 11:17 PM

That sucks do you have a picture of yours?
You can get a draw straw from most vendors mine cam from Airdog. here's how it mounts in. A lot of people are doing the sump kit so they don't have to drop the tank. I really don't want a fuel line hanging down under the tank IMO.

Cut a hole and install the grommet

I did goggle the straw draw and the sump and they are options to buying the expensive module but I still need to replace the sending unit because it is not working . I will try to get a picture today and maybe you will know a way it comes out , if I can post a picture .

It looks like there is a slot it slides up in but can`t tell how it locks in . Maybe the new one will help me understand .

Cant tell how to get to the wires ( connection on top) to unhook them

Jet A Fuel 06-27-2016 03:36 AM

Yes it definitely looks like it slides up the slot , I bet when you get the new one it will be easy to tell whats up with both issues. It may be a wedge fit also might have to use a mirror and look for a lock tab in the slot. Tap it down see if it moves. It looks like the rheostat circuit card is held in with little tabs too.
If there isn't a plug with the new sender you may have to disengage the wire with a red and white plastic wire extractor (available at radio shack).
The metal connectors on the end of the wires have a small tang that locks the connector to the plug.

Thank you Jet A Fuel for your help . When I finish I will repost results

LDOYLE 06-27-2016 01:41 PM

Yes , there was a tiny little tab that locks it in place . Slight pressure with a screwdriver and it comes out . One problem solved . Now to figure out how to get the wires unhooked . I see a push tab on bottom of lid connector but haven`t had any luck yet . I push and wiggle everything but nothing yet .:argh:

If adding a draw straw make sure your cut is straight. If not you will end up with 1/4 fueling issues.

Good suggestion Ghost! the instructions say to use a quarter and space it off the bottom of the tank. The problem I found is when the tank expands and contracts this gap can be greater or less with fuel load/tank pressure etc. Less gap would be bad cause it could restrict the flow if the bottom of the tank comes in contact with a straight cut straw. To fix this possible scenario I cut mine like this.

This has worked good for me

gh0stman 07-01-2016 06:38 AM

I've always heard 2 quarters. But the most important thing is a straight cut on the low end.

UPDATE : Everything is back together now and on the road again . I`m happy and thanks for the replies guys . :jump::tu:
