Hey guys new to the forum and forums in general.

Anyway I have searched and searched and haven't been able to find the same symptoms and advice but at idle my truck is making a strange humming almost whining noise and where I hear it is when standing beside the truck from either side if you try to bend down to hear it better the engine noise over powers the sound. So with that said it sounds as tho it's in the rear end of the engine maybe tcase or tranny. Thank you very much in advance for any advice you guys can offer. Also first diesel I've ever owned and have had it for 2 months. So please excuse a stupid question hear and there.

 

No stupid questions I learn something new everyday. but we need more info is it a automatic or manual? how many miles on it? does it do it all the time?does it change pitch with rpm?
It's best if you can video the sound and upload it using the post reply button and selecting the icon to the left of the mountain icon.

 

Right you never know unless you ask. All questions above will help with potential diagnosing of problems. Have you tried to pull codes or is the CEL on?

 

It's an automatic. 240k. Tranny replaced 100k ago. I'll try to record it tonight.
And the noise is faint enough to be drowned out by the engine noise so I'm not sure about if it rises with rpm or not. Never tried pulling codes or no cel on.
