1999 dodge cummins 24 valve hard to start when warm
My 1999 dodge 3500 24 valve 2nd gen has a mind of its own. I have been up down and all around with it. Results are truck cranks and starts fine when cold ( first thing ) then when it warms up it wants to show out and cranks several times before starting. Have changed fuel filters checked heaters checked for fuel leaks from tank to engine everything checks out good. Any help welcome and appreciated.

Still acting up Bud? I was just looking at the old thread in the 5.9 section to see where we left off.

I am thinking this isn't electrical now and maybe more mechanical related like an injector pop issue or a VP pump bleeding down fuel pressure.
How many miles on this engine? Does it do the long start every time now when its hot? You could check the Inlet air temp sensor since it seems to be temp related. here's some diagnostic PDF's Attachment 30256 Attachment 30257 Attachment 30258 |
Engine/truck has 254,000. Vp44 only has just over 100,000 . If I drive 20-30 minutes shut truck off try to start back up it will crank several times before starting. If it sits for 8-10 hrs it will start right up 9 out of 10 times with no problem. Thanks for info, will try to check this weekend since I will be replacing clutch anyway.

try swapping around your fuel pump relay and the ASD relay in the power center also.
