Programmer?

Wanting to put a programmer on my 98.5 2500 cummins been debating for a while and think finally ready for it thinking about an edge possibly a smarty but do I need to do anything else to the engine to pep it up any or can I just throw a programmer in a stock engine without tearing my truck apart?

You need a lift pump that can support a tuner as well as gauges. If you take the edge route you will be covered in the gauge dept. But if you go smarty you will need to buy gauges. Most important is the fuel pressure gauge.

That's kinda why I'm leaning toward edge they have the gauges built in digitally and as far as lift pump I just have put a stock injection pump back in it because the tank pump went out and burnt my injection pump. Since both pumps are brand new could I get away with maybe just upgraded injectors? I hate to sound cheap but I want to do it right but I just dropped right at 3 grand on towing bill injection pump and tank pump haha

You will need something like a FASS system to keep the VP fed. Otherwise you wont get the proper amount of fuel to keep it lubricated. As for upgraded injectors I wouldn't do that unless I had an upgraded fuel system. For the edge and FASS setup you will be looking at about $1600.

And if you have your stock lift pump in the tank you can add another $80ish for a draw straw, but then you run into the 1/4 tank issues.

I like my edge. I still have stock injectors but have a bd flow max lift pump and am happy with it. The built in gauges are nice and you can set alarms for fuel pressure and egt's.

Unless you go Draw Straw V, modifying the fuel basket.

What about putting a programmer on an engine with 285k without a rebuild say I did go with a fass system is it going to be too much for the engine itself? And as far as the draw straw I've not heard a whole lot about them to be honest with y'all

When I got mine it was a unmolested example at 227k. Now that I have touched her :tttt: and added the edge and other upgrades shortly after buying. I am at 236K have no issues with power delivery other than trying to give it full gusto when set in kill mod(level 5). I feel if you took this route and had any setup similar to anyone else on this site you will be happy with the change.
