no power

I only recently purchased my 2000 cummins with 180k and it has always seemed a little weak when it comes to what I will call passing power you stand on the pedal and it just slowly climbs up. I hooked up to a little trailer with a nothing load and it wouldn't get out of its own way. the truck starts and runs perfect no problems the fuel press gauge is 13 at idle 11 at cruse and 7 at wot (when it gets there). boost gauge never gets over 10 and it doesn't smoke at all. any help would be appreciated

14psi at wot is minimal
Check for a boost leak. Get the fuel pressure up. You may be killing your vp

I've already removed and inspected the turbo checked waste gate and replaced the O-rings when I put it back together and I replaced one boot thinking that it had a hole in it but turned out it didn't and checked the others and the inner cooler didn't find anything. Is there something else I could look at? I read somewhere (maybe here) that turbo problems usually cause smoke, and mines not. beside a boost leak could it be something else? I had thought something similar cause that is what I feel like it drives like a non turbo diesel. after no results I moved on to fuel. thanks for the input.

get the fuel pressure up.
sorry about being short, i got an engine giving me issues at work :argh::argh:

don't worry about being short. I apologize for my ignorance. how do I get the fuel pressure up? is the lift pump on the way out? do I need to replace it? I centrally do not want to do any harm to the vp. :humm:

Just-Another-Dieselguy 11-21-2014 02:29 PM

what lift pump do you run? a fass 150 would be a great upgrade

sam mule 11-21-2014 02:33 PM

the truck is stock

#1 upgrade into a truck with a vp, Fuel system. my favorite would be the FASS Titanium system

fuel pressure should not be below 14psi at WOT and i like to see about 20-21psi at idle

So I'll look at a new lift pump. It being weak is what caused the problems? Will that also cause the turbo boost to be more? How much should the turbo push?

RedChevy44 11-21-2014 07:51 PM

Turbo should push 20-25 psi if everything is stock. I also like the FASS pump, although I installed a Raptor FRRP recently which bolts in right where the factory pump does, and puts out a constant 15 psi even at WOT.
