Intake horn

Hey guys just curious how much difference a new intake horn would make is it worth putting on to get some more power out of the truck or would I need to back it up with some more mods to really notice a difference just chime in whatever you think about it

Its a good idea to improve the intake air flow when your moddin'. It will compliment your tuner and exhaust mods, plus help decrease EGTs some. A CAI wouldnt hurt either. Research and choose wisely. Beware of inflated hp and tq claims (im sure youre aware). Stock will get the job done, but a good aftermarket does offer benefits. Your butt-dyno will feel a bit of difference. Just dont expect neck-snapping performance increase tho. What exactly is your goal(s) for your truck?

I do a lot of towing car trailer camper quads stuff like that so Im wanting more power for towing my torque converter is crapping out on me too so a tranny is in my future plans but I'm gonna drive it till she brakes than rebuild it but like I said mainly looking for power for towing

Look into the Afe Bladerunner. My dad had this on his 02 Dodge CTD Dually. It worked really well and he was very pleased with it. He hauled heavy loads of hay, nine tons on a gooseneck flatbed trailer, every couple of weeks. He did this for years, until he sold the truck just over a year ago and bought a new 6.7 CTD. He had other mods such as CAI, BHAF, Quadzilla Tuner, and MBRP turbo-back exhaust. The Bladerunner has multiple threaded ports, for water/meth injection nozzle(s), and boost gauge. Its a bit pricey (pretty close to $300 bucks). It looks pretty cool also, if youre into the bling factor.:pca1:

I had one on my '01. Very, very nice piece. Not only did it look good, but it felt good.

suppose I'll be the one to break it to you...

intake horn on a vp44 truck isn't going to do a damn thing for you performance wise.

any gains will be negligible at best.

If you are all about looks, how about some powder coat or paint?

Now if you had a common rail truck: get an intake horn, or swap a second gen 24v horn on there and dump the 3rd gen intake horn.

but since you are a 2nd gen 24v: your stock intake horn already flows almost double the CFM a common rail intake horn flows, and the vp44 will max out on power before you are at a high enough power level to benefit from increased air flow from the intake horn/grid delete...

Here is under my hood with a STOCK intake horn and some powder coat.

I get more than enough airflow from the compounds :tu:

justify spending that money however you want, but if it was my truck: I'd put that money towards injectors. "cold air intake" doesn't do squat either. another "bling" mod. only reason my truck doesn't have the stock air tube on there is because the stock one won't fit a S475. :pca1:

No offense to those that have those "mods" but be honest... those mods didn't make a damn bit of difference! only thing they might do is make the turbo sound louder, or your intake look "prettier"

All your "butt-dyno's" felt was a placebo effect.

Bigg Redd 10-28-2014 03:13 PM

Wow! There is nothing wrong with making an engine more efficient. Any improvement, however slight, is still an improvement, blingy or not. Different goals for different people.

I'm still gonna get one just to make my engine compartment look a little better :jump:

Bigg Redd 10-29-2014 10:43 AM

Run with it brother!:c:

jigabop 10-30-2014 12:35 PM

lol my point was spending $200+ on a maybe 1-5hp gain isn't worth it if you are doing it for the power...

money would be better spend towards injectors which would give a significant HP gain :tu:
