2001 cummins dead pedal

Alright I've been battling dead pedal since I got the truck 10 months ago. It does it when I start it after sitting overnight. It won't do it until I am in second. I can drive around the parking lot 10 times in first but as soon as I get out on the road and start shifting it defuels. I get maybe 10 to 15 percent of the pedal. I've installed a re manufactured vp it has a 95 gph fass pump and big line kit along with an edge juice with attitude. I've unhooked the juice with attitude completely and it still did it. I installed the vp because of the dead pedal and it cut out with white smoke. New vp fixed the white smoke and cutting out but dead pedals the same. I just installed a MAP sensor and a cam sensor. Made it better. By better I mean I can push the pedal down or the clutch in and it will come out of it. I also installed a new apps. Calibrated it and same old same old. I always show 18 to 20 psi on my fuel pressure at idle and I've seen it drop to 14 psi at wot. I'm at my wits end! Please help!

Other things I thought of!

I do have a 0216 code that's all I have. But I find it hard to believe it's my vp. The lift pump was on it when I got it. It does have 200 hp injectors so maybe my volume isn't enough for those injectors. Plus it's a raptor pump so it's using all the fuel lines in the tank and the return in the tank. Maybe it's getting cavitation from the return line? Any ideas are appreciated

Did you ever resolve your issue? If so, what did it end up being? I am having simular issue after replacing vp44.

You can reset your apps, "Disconnect both your negative battery cables, wait 30 minutes. Reconnect your battery cables, turn key on, but DO NOT start the truck. Slowly press the pedal to the floor and then slowly lift off the pedal. When pedal is in normal position, turn off the key and you are done. Hopefully that might get yo uin the right direction either way it costs nothing but time." - Gh0stman.

Do you Have a fuel pressure gauge?
If so what is it reading?
Did you install the vp44?

I have seen people not prime the system properly and damage new vp pumps. it sounds alot to me like a vp44 issue, p-0216, and a dead pedal is a scary thing.

Keep us updated with information, every test you do, result you get. together we can figure this out! :c:

New vp44, new fass ddrp2, big line from tank, new module in tank, new apps, already did apps reset, fuel pressure at idle 19 , 17 on hwy, and will hit 13 briefly under full throttle. New map sensor, cleaned IAT. changed fuel filter when lift pump and IP went in. will only get dead pedal once in the morning about 1 mile from the house lasts 15 seconds and will be fine for the rest of the day. No white smoke and runs like a champ afterwards. Dead pedal is not like when apps is messing up but more of a decreased power. does not set CEL but 0216 and 1693 will be set every time, and it usually happens pulling out from red light.

Is the truck tuned?

where are you getting the signal for the fuel pressure?

Just-Another-Dieselguy 09-25-2014 05:19 PM

I had that issue.:argh: it was my vp for the record:ouch:

I have the same symptoms with or without edge comp hooked up, fuel pressure from top of filter canister. When I changed IP and LP there was no change in symptoms.
