obd2 wont link to ABS.

my brake and abs light has been on (w/no abs braking). edge cs read a p0500 if i remember correctly rear speed sensor, so i put a knew one in and erased the code. the code will not come up again but the lights are still on. i do not know if i have abs braking yet. i bought an obd2 scanner nothing high end but it does read abs but it will not link to my abs system it says link error it does link for everything else but not the abs. anyone have any idea why?

Fuse box in the engine compartment abs fuse see if its poped

sixshooter 02-24-2014 05:47 PM

already did seems to be fine.

lilmike1540 02-24-2014 06:49 PM

Next step would be to check all your wheel speed sensors but i would disconect bolth batterys for five minutes first if you havnt done that

sixshooter 02-25-2014 02:57 PM

I only have one speed sensor on the rear housing.I have already had the batteries disconnected for about 30 minutes to recalibrate the apps .if the abs module itself is bad would this not throw a code.

lilmike1540 02-25-2014 03:03 PM

What happend when the abs light came on

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I have seen where the reluctor ring in the diff was missing teeth and throw codes

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

And it could also be the copmuter just not turning the lights off

sixshooter 02-25-2014 03:55 PM

It was on when I got the truck. Finally got sick of lookin at the lights and put a new sensor in.the old sensor looked fine though.

lilmike1540 02-25-2014 04:02 PM

Oh welll i would check.all.the wheel speed sensors and pop that back diff cover off and take a look see it will also give you a good chance to see what needs replaced and all that good stuff a dirty wheel speed sensor will do this check you brake fluid make sure you lines look good make sure you power booster witch if its a 3500 with have hydro assist off the powerstearing take the conectors of the abs pump and clean them other then that theres not much else you can do just remeber the ABS light issnt just for abs its for the.entire brakeing system

sixshooter 02-25-2014 04:17 PM

Fluid level is good ii was gonna change diff fluid as preventative maintenance anyway so ill look around in there and I dont have four wheel abs so only one rear speed sensor. Thanks ill post any new info.

lilmike1540 02-25-2014 04:30 PM

Right every dodge of this make only has one and it also for info for the speedo as well

ramrunner01 02-25-2014 06:00 PM

Did you say the brakes aren't working well? Or the lights are just stuck on?

sixshooter 02-26-2014 06:45 AM

Brakes work just not the antilock they are however a little grabby after it rains or when wet.im gonna do frnt pads and probably shoes soon and see if that helps I think the fronts might be kinda low.

lilmike1540 02-26-2014 08:01 AM

When i bought my truck the front calipers were sticking a couple. Of rebuild kits and good as new mine wasnt throwing up a abs light though

sixshooter 02-26-2014 11:22 AM

Ill look into that too. appreciate the info ill see what I can find out.

ramrunner01 02-26-2014 12:50 PM

Mine did that I replaced the sensor and still didn't fix it it ended up being the proportion valve had a tiny leak and would throw the light on I would check that :humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

There will be a little black rubber cap on the top and than a needle valve under neath it make sure there is no fluid coming out of there

sixshooter 02-26-2014 03:09 PM

Ill check that too. But wouldnt it show up in my res. If I had even a small leak after 2years

ramrunner01 02-26-2014 05:20 PM

Ya I didn't realize it had been two years sounds like it could be a brake booster maybe? Have you tried bleeding your brakes just to see what it does?

sixshooter 02-26-2014 05:29 PM

im gonna try to do pads this weekend ill bleed em then and see what happens.

checked the valve no sign of any leaks anyway that i can tell.

ramrunner01 02-26-2014 07:43 PM

Just curious did you have someone press the pedal while you watched the needle valve that was the only way i knew mine was leaking

sixshooter 02-27-2014 10:20 AM

I did not. I just looked for any sign of fluid.does the needle move visually?

ramrunner01 02-27-2014 06:08 PM

Ya there is a rubber cap on the top of the valve pull it off and when you hit the brakes the needle valve will pop out
