Water Pump Leaking from Weep Hole - How Far Can I Drive

Hello Everyone,

I noticed a greenish puddle underneath my truck yesterday and discovered coolant dripping from the water pump weep hole.:argh: Bummed as i wanted to go on a trip today to the snow, but frustrating as this is, I did get 165k out of the stock pump.

Now it leaks when sitting or right after running but not while running. Does this seem normal or am I just not seeing it while running? I did a lot of research on replacing but to be honest, I do not have the ideal conditions being in town on the street (driveway is too steep to work in) and the property is 25 miles away.

Would it be safe to drive 5 miles to the mechanic in town tomorrow to have him replace it? (would you risk it)

My plan would be too:

1 - Top Off Coolant
2 - Loosen the Radiator Cap
3 - Keep RPM's below 2k

Thank you !:tu:

You should be fine to drive it that far. As long as your going to get the coolant out right as soon as you get to your destination, you could top off your coolant with water to save some money.

Great to hear, towing on a holiday would be way to much money. Now when you say remove the coolant right away, that's only if i use water correct? I know regular hose water can create havoc on cooling systems. Luckily i have a half full jug of coolant at the house.

Just to to provide more information, i placed a pan underneath to measure the fluid loss. Approx. 3 shot glass worth since yesterday.

Thought i would provide an update for anyone that is curious.

Truck made it to town without an issue and only lost fluid once stopped at the mech. My advice to anyone would be to check the water pump every so often as i am sure it was dripping slowly well before i ended up with a puddle under the truck after driving.

Getting a new :rocking: not re-manufactured pump

Glad you made it. I was saying to pull the coolant out right away in case it get cold. Depending on how much water was added will determine the dilution, and higher freeze point.
