Same issue here only no smoke here. Changed the thermostat and truck holds 195 consistently but the heat coming out on the vents is luke warm. To cold right now to mess with flushing but am considering this to be part of the issue. Am I wrong, it has always looked to me like the heatercore is the highest point in this whole system?:humm: I have read of the crap that fills in around the box in the dash and am planning to try and clean this in the spring but if anyone else has any ideas I'm open to them.

Try reverse flushing your heater core. I've done it many times, and it works wonders!

Hot coolant flows from the back of the cylinder head, to the heater core, then back to the water pump area.

You can drain your coolant, or clamp off your heater core lines.

Use a garden hose to push water BACKWARDS through the heater core, opposite the flow of normal (where the hose was that goes to the water pump area).

If you have shop air, blow the heater core out the same way to get as much water out as you can. You won't get it all out, but you will get most of it.

Reconnect you lines, and refill your coolant system if you drained it.

Depending on how much coolant you lost, top up the system with pre-mix or concentrate. If you only lost what was in the heater core and a little int he lines, add concentrate. This will mix with the water left over in the heater core.
