Turbo problem!!!!
I bought my 01 with an after market turbo but can't figure out what kind it is! The turbo started making a loud wine noise like it's letting out air when I hit about 10 lbs of boost. But I still can get 30 lbs out of it. I need to know how I can figure our what kind of turbo I have so I can get a rebult kit instead of droping 1300 on a new turbo.

Pictures and any numbers or words on the turbo would help
|
I don't know how to get the picture up loaded. But it has a symbol of a bunch of rectangles and boxes connected .
|
No numbers at all? Even on the center section?
Could be a boost leak your hearing. Have you double checked all your hose clamps? |
That's what I'm thinking it is. But I've checked the clamp were my down pipe connects and still happens when I hit 10 lbs of boost
|
What about the rubber hoses on the boost tubes? Turbo to tube, tube to air to air, air to air to tube, and tube to intake horn. The lower hoses on the air to air are known to rub on the inner fenders and cause holes.

Industrial Injection, no doubt about it.
Shop | Category: 1989-02 12V & 24V Phatshaft Turbos There are many on this page that would fit your truck. To find out for sure, more #'s or measuring the wheels are necessary. |
I took the intake off and there's some play and a little rubbing in the turbo. So I need to rebuild for shure. I've looked were else could #'s possibly be on it?

custom turbos lots of the times have no numbers. when we build them they get a custom part number in our computer and sent out the door. no one else would have any idea what it is with out measuring. if there is no tag on the bearing housing than the only way to tell the size of the charger will be to dismantle it and get a part number off the back of the compressor wheel and a measurement from the turbine. if you had a picture of the turbine we could tell you what size it is by looking @ it. in any case its an s300 turbocharger any turbo shop will have rebuild kits on the shelf and new compressors handy.
rebuild kit will be $130ish comp wheel will be in the $150 range for a cast, $450 for a billet labor will be a couple hundred. if the bearing housing, turbine, turbine housing and comp cover arnt damaged much. than a rebuild should be in the $500 range |
