And the OP doesn't. His very first post said clearly that he's new and doesn't know anything. I'm glad I work on my own trucks instead of spending money on a mechanic that insists on going around his ******* to get to his elbow and probably charges extra for it.

Absolutely we charge extra for it. We also charge extra for cleaning up the diy messes created by guys that do their own work. I think your post is a bit un called for, for the simple fact if you read my post it says to replace it with whats on the truck currently. What would you think the probability of having a modded 24v case on a p pumped truck is? How do you get so mouthy and arrogant when I didnt even tell the guy which case to use? Professional techs replace the parts with like or identical parts even if it must be modified because thats what we're paid to do. We fix them right the first time. If that cost more so be it.

. Now who's getting wound up, Lucas? You explicitly told him to use the 24v case. Sometimes the best path is the path of least resistance. Professional techs replace the parts with like or identical parts, huh? A 12v case isn't a "like" part? It's a better option, a simpler option and a cheaper option, especially for a new guy. You go ahead and charge more for a part that can easily be replaced more quickly, cheaper and will work just as well or better, guy. You change tires at your shop? You always replace them with identical tires and overcharge for it or do you find something that best fits the customer's needs or wants?

For the record, I don't give two flaming wombat turds in blazin' Hell if you think my post is uncalled for. I'm here to help the guy out, you're trying to make a buck. Arguing with you is old already, he's going to use what he's going to use and you still haven't given a clear reason why a 12v case shouldn't be used other than your vague opinion that a modded part should replace a modded part even if an unmodded factory part is available. It's perfect for what he needs and you can't tell him otherwise.

If your customers are willing to pay you to work on their trucks, if you make them happy, I think that's great. I hope things keep going well for you and them. That said, just because you collect a dollar doing this, doesn't make you any more of an expert than a guy who's been doing this for 15 years in his own shop and makes his money elsewhere. That's mouthy and arrogant.

Have you even realized yet that I didnt tell him to use a 24v cover/case? Just said use whats on it? And that not one time did I say anything about not using a 12v cover? Never said anything about being an expert or you not being an expert?
How do I stand to benefit from any of this again? I'll edit the original post to llease you.
Lol

Thanks so much for all of your help. I swapped my timing case this weekend. I wasted alot of time trying to pull the cam gear off because I thought it would save some time not pulling the cam. I ended up pulling it anyway when I couldn't get the cam gear off. It was surprisingly simple and I am glad I did the job myself because I learned alot more about my truck in the process.
