dana 70 diagram

hey guys got a 2001 24 valve with an automatic I believe I have the dana 70, my problem I'm having is the rear wheel wobbles when I'm going down the road I pulled the wheel off and I could see the caliper move in and out and than put my finger on the end of the axle and could feel the axle wobble around and so what I need is a diagram of what all is in the rear :argh:

caliper? stock I thought that only the HO 2500 with 6 speed manual had rear disk brakes. not sure what truck you have put this link shows how to identify your axles, and has a blown up version. used this to put new bearings and seals in my dana 70 this summer. I think even the torque specs are listed. There are some articles on here about this, and I may even have parts numbers for you so you don't have to go though the Napa nightmare lol

that link may have been for the front.....here is another one that shows removing the bearings and such on an older dana 70 to the brake drums
A Boy and his Jeep » Dana 60/70 Rear Drums
and here is one too that has all sorts of side links on the bottom of the page. The dana 70 thread - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

hope this helps

I'm going to go to dodge today and ask them to run my vin to see what rearend i have I was told that automatics had Dana 70 And manuals had 80s unless someone has switched it from drums to disc along the lines of her life I may be wrong tho I'm the third owner of the truck so it could have been changed somewhere along the lines :tttt:

smokybob 12-11-2013 01:59 PM

yeah the change over is easy so someone probably has switched to disks. or they could have put a dana 80 with disks on your truck.

What's the best way to figure out what the rear end is I don't think it's got a tag on it do you know?

smokybob 12-11-2013 04:12 PM

cant remember exactly. if there is no tag, check for raised numbers branded onto the passenger side of the diff. google can show you a lot. lol

for some reason that little finger pointing smiley keeps showing on my posts lol

ramrunner01 12-12-2013 08:08 AM

5- and 6-speeds have the Dana 80 in the 2500s, while automatics received the Dana 70. All 3500s have the Dana 80 regardless of transmission type.

However, I have an '01 with the 6-speed behind a 245 HO motor with the stock Dana 80 and mine has rear drums. According to the options list from the dealership where the previous owner ordered the truck back in '00, rear discs are an option. The standard was still drums.

Maybe this helps clear up some confusion. Good luck!

Well just an update on my wobble problem found it was the bearings in the hub replaced bearings and now no wobble :rocking:
