yellow check engine light

Went to start my truck this morning and it was about 32 degrees and it started but seemed like it was going to die but then went to high idle for a couple seconds. Now I have a yellow check engine light but it still drives like normal. Havent pulled any codes cause im going to work. Just wanted to try and get a little bit of a heads up. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I drive a 2002 2nd gen 24v

yes, it is normal.

you can have high idle enabled, but it is not enabled by default from dodge.

the cummins high idle software is already present in the ECM, just set to disabled.

you can either use a smarty programmer, or get high idle enabled by a dealership.

once the software is enabled, when the intake temp reads below 32F it will start 6-cyl high idle after 1 minute run time and idle at 1200rpm.

when the intake reads below 15F it will start 3-cyl high idle after 1 minute run time and will idle at 1200rpm on 3 cylinders (makes your truck sound like a tractor lol)

Whats the point of 3 cyld high idle?

I believe 3 cylinder high idle will create more heat to help in warm up time

hmm... I didn't know that! Thanks!

exactly.

3-cyl high idle revs to 1200rpm and shuts down the front 3 cylinders and runs on the back 3 cylinders only.

this causes an artificial load on the engine because it has 3 cylinders that are still compressing air but never getting fuel thus never firing which puts a pretty good load on the engine to generate more heat.

when idling on 3 cylinders my truck gets up to 500-580* on the pyro.

basically 3-cyl high idle accelerates warm up time. takes about 10 minutes for my truck to reach 170*F on 3-cyl mode.

I don't think it would ever reach 170*F on standard idle, and probably take 15-20 minutes on 6-cyl high idle.
