cummins worth 7500$

hey guys im new to the forum but i had a question about a 2001 cummins 6 speed extended cab short box that i found . ive been looking for a truck for a while now and my price range is a little low for a diesel but im trying to make it work. im trying to find a truck thats not in too bad of shape that i can put work into and make it nice. my budget right now is 7500$ tops. i found a 2001 cummins with a six speed , extended cab short box with 250,000 miles but body is in pretty rough shape . both front fenders have surface rust and some rot holes, back fenders look a little better but still rust and rot , pass cab corners got some rot , rockers i think are rusty and theres a dent on the rear cab pillar. truck is supposed to be in good working order. i was wondering if it would be worth 7500 $ any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

If the body is in that kind of shape, i would wonder what kind of shape the motor would be in.

That sounds too high to me but it really depends on where you are located. When I bought my truck it had 192k on it, no rust, a couple small dents, and the clear coat was starting to peel a little on the hood and I only paid $8k for it.

Seriously 7500 is to cheap for your truck.

I would walk away from it mramsa82. In a year the body will probably fall off it! lol I would seriously take a look at blacksally's though for that kind of money!:tu: Otherwise, take your time and keep looking.

That's definitely on the high side....my father and I rebuild cummins trucks that we buy off of insurance auctions and resell them. we had an extended cab long box with a six speed and was in perfect shape and sold it for 8k. Also if your a pretty good wrencher try looking into picking up a wrecked or flooded vehicle...you can usually find one with low miles for under 3k then do all the necessary fixes and you can make it your own. The truck that's in my sig is a pretty rare 2500 b/c it came with the high output cummins w/an automatic and has a heavier load rating and I bought it for 2100! just a thought...

Just make SURE it is not an East coast flood vehicle from superstorm Sandy. Salt water floods are total junk, the electrical system is totaled as is the body. The body will look fine but a year down the road it will fall apart.
