starts, lopes, and then dies

i have a 98.5 dodge 3500 and just a couple of weeks ago it started problems. i can go outside in the morning and start the truck just fine, drive it around, but as soon as i shut it off its game over. i wont be able to run again until the next morning. it starts, lopes, and then dies. someone made the suggestion of fuel pump. so i spent 200 on an OE improved pump. pump works fine, but still didnt fix it. it seems just so much that its a computer or sensor problem. any ideas?

Sounds like a IP problem. Check for codes...

Check this out it has some good info on how to diagnose if your VP44 is bad.

VP44 Diagnostic

After you do this report back and let me know if that indeed was the problem. I highly recommend you get and aftermarket lift pump like and Airdog Or FASS and a fuel pressure gauge. VP powered trucks must have adequate fuel supply to the IP or else it will burn itself up.

i agree with H.R.D sounds like the ip!!

It could be the Injection pump, or once you warm up having connection issues, and or ecm, pcm issues. But the best thing to do is try to go and get codes and see if there are any history codes or current codes which current codes will throw a check engine light and historic codes wont, but they can also be current codes, but this can point us in a good direction to help diagnoise the issue.

Mine did this when my fuel pressure was low..

Bumped it up a little on the Raptor and she was golden!

How's your FP?

the fuel pump i put on is an OE improved pump, its working great. but problem still occurs. i was wondering, there is a computer module in the IP and is it possible to replace just that? an IP is about 1200 bucks and i nvr have that kind of money lyin around. im thinkin maybe the truck starts fine, but after its warmed up and turned off, that the module is screwed up, like a transister blown or somethin like that? also a tiny bit of fuel leaks out of the injection line going to the first cylinder. the leak is comming out of the line nut that is screwed into the head

well a fuel leak can cause issues, you proably open up the leak when it warms up and when you shut it off you suck air into the injection system, Is it the injection line going into the head or into the injection pump? you can try to tighten it and see what it doesnt help. I beleive they are 19mm.

its goin into the head. i tightened it, it slowed the leak, but dont think it had anything to do with the problem
